Agnes Turns 50:
History and Legacies of Tropical Storm Agnes in the Susquehanna Valley
June 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Tropical Storm Agnes, the region’s worst natural disaster. Join us for this special presentation from Professor Andrew Stuhl (Environmental Studies and Sciences, Bucknell University) and student Bethany Fitch (Class of ’23) to commemorate the history and legacies of this transformative event.
Andrew and Bethany have documented the impacts of Agnes through careful research: close to 50 interviews with Agnes survivors in the Valley; hundreds of photographs from area residents; newspaper coverage; and materials from the Pennsylvania state archives.
Following a slideshow, audience members will be invited to share their memories and stories about Agnes, and/or pose questions about the area’s preparedness for the next storm.
